2026 KEY DATES

  • Our Vision Campaign Team is planning a Creative Gifts Tax Seminar.  The main purpose of the seminar is to provide practical ideas to help you achieve your giving goals in the most tax advantaged manner and answer questions like:

    • What are the options available for me to participate in the Vision Campaign? Ideas presented will show you ways to multiply your financial commitment by creatively choosing the source of gifts.

    • Can I give assets other than cash?  The form of your gift can make a tremendous difference in its net cost to you.  Choosing the right property for your gift may allow you to give more due to enhanced tax savings.

    • When should I give?  Tax and other financial benefits can be enhanced by careful timing of your gifts.

Want to know more?  Come to the Creative Gifts Tax Seminar to be held on Sunday, March 8th at 11:30am in the Fellowship Hall.

An invitation to a Legacy of Faithfulness and Purpose to

GO BEYOND

Nearly a century ago, a group of faithful men and women gathered in Columbus with a vision to create a church centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. On March 25, 1928, our very first worship service was held in what used to be a downtown dance hall. It wasn’t fancy, maybe even a little scandalous, but that faithfulness led to something special.

They could not have known all that would follow. They couldn’t see the global wars, the cultural shifts, the digital revolution, or the changing needs of a growing city. But what they could see was Jesus, and they believed He was worth sharing for generations to come. They sacrificed their time, their comfort, and their resources to build what we now call Trinity Lutheran Church.

Today, nearly 98 years later, that same spirit still defines us. We believe God is once again inviting us to take a bold step of faith. Not just to preserve what has been, but to prepare for what could be. We all agree we stand on the legacy of those who went before us, and now we ask ourselves, “Is it our turn?” Just as those early founders trusted God to build something lasting, we now believe He is calling us to do the same, for a future that will bless generations to come. This is not simply about updating a facility. It is about truly believing that God still has more for us.

What better reason than to glorify God and invest in the future of our family and community by sharing the gift of Jesus, a gift that lasts forever. We believe this next step will require faith, courage, and deep sacrifice. And we believe it will unleash a new season of transformation, purpose, and joy…not just for Trinity, but for our city and beyond.

This vision to Go Beyond is so much more than a building. It is about investing in the future of this amazing family. It is about creating space where real healing is recognized, real purpose and calling are discovered, and life transformation is celebrated. This is a defining moment in our history, Trinity. As we move forward, we do so with gratitude for the past and boldness for the future, trusting that the abundant God who provided then will be the abundant God who leads us now.

Let’s Go Beyond together.

In His grace,

Pastor Billy Czapla

a history of

our church

With roots that began at the turn of the 20th century, “Trinity Lutheran Church” began officially on March 25, 1928. The new congregation purchased a hall on 11th Street for $12,500 and called Rev. F. Albin Heinz to serve 425 baptized members.

With a congregation of more than 1,000, a new space to carry out the Church’s mission was needed by the 1950’s. Starting with an individual bequest, a building fund was established. This culminated in the purchase of land in 1955 and dedication of the current building in 1962.

This structure has served Trinity’s mission for 63 years, almost twice as long as our first church home. The congregation has considered renovations, both small and large. Some have been completed, some have not. As a result, the church’s infrastructure and spaces are largely still built for the 1960s.

Ministry today looks very different than it did in 1962, and we believe God wants to bless our church in new and profound ways as we prepare to move into Trinity’s second century in 2028.

This project is about taking a risk to experience God’s full abundance. It’s about the resulting change He will bring to us and to our community.

honoring the past, investing in the future

big impact

Over 62 years ago, Trinity Lutheran Church launched a bold endeavor, to build a new place of worship that would serve not only their own generation, but countless generations to come. That vision was driven by one goal: to reach people with the transforming love and life of Jesus.

Through the selfless sacrifice of those who came before us, a church home was created. And from that place, thousands have encountered the Gospel; through weekly worship, youth group, weddings, funerals, VBS, Bible studies, confirmation, serving opportunities, community partnerships and so much more. That same home still serves our church and community today. It has been well used and well loved, almost every day of the week.

Now, as we look forward, we also look back with gratitude for those who said yes to something beyond themselves. Their vision has become our inheritance. And today, we are being invited into the same kind of faithful sacrifice.

We ask you to envision the transformative impact that the Go Beyond Vision Campaign can have on those who have not yet walked through our doors, (some of whom have not even been born yet). By ensuring that our space is well-equipped, welcoming, and ready for future generations, we are creating a place where people can continue to encounter Jesus and be changed by His love.

This student’s story is just one of many. Through children’s and youth ministries, mission trips, worship, teaching, testimony nights, and meaningful connection, God is using Trinity to change lives. When we invest in the next generation through the Go Beyond Vision Campaign, we are not simply renovating a facility. We are continuing the legacy of those who gave so that we could know Jesus, and we are passing that legacy on to others, trusting that God will use our sacrifice to make a big impact for years to come.

“I love being able to come to a community on Wednesdays who will always support me and lead me closer to God.”

- High School Student

the vision

For nearly 98 years, Trinity Lutheran Church has been a place where people experience Jesus. His love, His grace, and His purpose for their lives. Knowing the heart of that will not change, we do believe God is preparing us for something new. After many years of listening, praying, and learning together, our leadership is stepping out in faith and inviting our entire church family into a bold season of rediscovering His loving reach, His faithfulness, and His purpose for our lives.

We believe God is calling us to go beyond.

Go Beyond our comfort. Go Beyond our beliefs. Go Beyond our strength.

Go Beyond our work. Go Beyond ourselves to witness God's power and glory for generations to come.

Yes, a significant part of this vision campaign will focus on our facility. But this is not just about making things look better. It is about:

  • Redesigning our facility to reflect our mission and vision, meeting the demands of today's ministry needs

  • Empowering this generation and the next through safe, welcoming, and flexible spaces that meet current standards

  • Investing in a facility that is accessible, functional, and ready to serve our city because of where God has placed us

These are all important and practical needs for the future of Trinity. But please do not miss the heart of what this vision is. A vision that is ultimately about calling every person who calls Trinity home into a renewed commitment to discipleship and giving glory to God for all He has done and continues to do. The truth is, there are thousands in our community who are separated from God and do not have a church home. Our prayer is that many of those individuals would be willing to step through our doors if someone from Trinity built a relationship with them and extended an invitation.

To help us live out this vision, we are inviting everyone to Go Beyond by committing in one or more of these meaningful ways:

Ways to Participate:

Committing to One

By committing to reaching one person in your life with the love of Jesus.

Committing to Community

By stepping into deeper community by joining a group that helps you grow in faith and walk alongside others.

Committing to Give

By investing generously in the mission and future of Trinity as we take the next steps needed to thrive in the years to come

Throughout this Vision Campaign, we will be sharing more about each of these invitations and how your commitment is part of what God is doing in and through us. For now, would you simply begin with prayer? Ask God how He might lead you to participate and Go Beyond in this fun season to come for our church family.

what do I do now?

Ask

We ask everyone to pray the campaign prayer:

“God, what do You want to do through me?” This is a question to ask in your own heart and also to be in prayer about with a spouse or your family. The answer is not the same for everyone. Pray that God will give you peace as you discern how to participate.

Consider

Consider what you can do or give up in order to be part of this project. Look at the Chart of Gifts. You can see that it is not equal gifts that will get us to our goals, it is equal sacrifice. Also, consult the Finding Ways to Give insert. If you have a spouse or other family members, share together about what commitment God may be calling you to make.

Commit

Determine your gift and fill out a Commitment Card. On our Commitment Weekend on May 16 & 17, 2026, we will collect the cards. Then on June 6 & 7, we will celebrate together what God has done through us by committing to One, committing to Community, and committing to Generosity.

Respond

Respond with prayer and worship as we embark on this transformative path together. May we be filled with gratitude and anticipation for what lies ahead, understanding that this campaign is not just about financial resources. It is about coming together to fulfill a shared vision, one that will impact lives, grow God’s Kingdom, and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

Ministry Benefits

Primary Goals

Expanded Community and Gathering Spaces

We want to create more space where all ages can connect, belong, and grow together.

  • Larger, more welcoming areas for youth and children

  • Retain the heart of our fellowship hall while making it more open and functional

  • Create comfortable and purposeful adult spaces that can be used during the week and on weekends

Improved Safety and Hospitality

We are committed to creating a space that is safe, secure, and easy to navigate for both guests and families.

  • A more defined and visible main entrance for improved hospitality and security

  • A secure children’s ministry area

  • Greater clarity and flow throughout the building to help newcomers feel at home

Flexible and Future-Ready Worship Environments

We envision worship spaces that are both sacred and versatile, so we are able to serve multiple generations with joy and excellence.

  • Flexible, modern worship areas for multi-generational gatherings

  • Improved audio, lighting, and visual capabilities

  • Layouts that support special events, discipleship moments, and more intimate worship experiences

Staff and Office Space that Serves Tomorrow’s Ministry Needs

Behind-the-scenes support is essential for mission. We plan to create:

  • More efficient, collaborative office space

  • Ministry support areas that reflect the needs of today’s teams and volunteers

Secondary Goals

Updating Infrastructure and Accessibility

While the heart of this project focuses on ministry spaces, we also recognize the need to care for our building's foundation. These updates ensure our facility is safe, welcoming, and ready for decades of continued ministry.

  • Modernize essential systems such as HVAC, electrical, and roofing

  • Renovate the kitchen for hospitality and future ministry use

  • Upgrade windows, insulation, and lighting to be more efficient and sustainable

  • Improve accessibility throughout the building, including restrooms and common areas, to better welcome those with mobility challenges or special needs

  • Increase multi-purpose storage and improve the flexibility of rooms so they can serve all age groups as needed

The Design

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Great question. Church leadership has been discussing similar ideas for years. After recent months of planning, a recommendation for this project was made to the Church Council. During that time many options were considered. A congregational survey was conducted in the Fall of 2025. Discussions with our ministry groups, Council, and staff were ongoing. While contemplating facility plans, we remained focused on mission and ministries. Our goal was to facilitate today’s ministry needs by doing necessary updates and creating a welcoming and secure environment for families.

  • $2.5-million is needed for necessary upgrades to the building’s infrastructure and the total cost of the project as currently envisioned is $6-million.

This includes expanded ministry space, a secure environment for our children, better utilizing existing spaces for ministry, and an environment that welcomes our community to Trinity.

  • This Vision Campaign provides us with an opportunity to challenge one another to prayerfully consider our individual involvement in the campaign and our personal commitments to the Lord, whether financial, or not. While finances committed will enable us to build our new facility, our ultimate vision is to become fully committed disciples in all areas of life.

  • While it is our prayer that the Lord will use this emphasis to provide resources for the new facility, the Vision Campaign is a time of teaching that God owns everything - our time, talents, and treasures. We are simply managers. When we understand that, the rest takes care of itself. Our goal is that, through stewardship teaching, each of us will surrender everything to Jesus Christ.

  • We have set up a fund to receive immediate cash and non-cash gifts. These gifts can be given all at once or over the course of three years. The church has some existing funds from the sale of properties that can be used. The Council will consider the use of borrowed funds after other options have been exhausted.

  • The amount we borrow will depend upon what God provides through His people. We may need to borrow to complete the project, but that depends on our response to the campaign. The more we raise in our Vision Campaign, the less we will need to borrow. There will be a realistic plan to pay back our obligations and this plan will be presented to the congregation for final approval.

  • Definitely. That which we keep for ourselves can be lost, but that which we willingly give away can never be lost. The gifts you give for the purpose of expanding God's Kingdom here will flourish and bear fruit as God adds His blessing to your faithfulness.

  • No. After asking God for guidance in the decision, each person will decide his/her individual commitment. The goal is not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice.

  • Every family is invited to pray about their commitment. There will be no pressure and no commitments made public. We ask each person to seek what God would have them do. As faithful managers of what God owns, we trust that He will provide what is needed as we walk in obedience.

  • Yes, you may. We strongly urge that you involve your children in some way, either by individual commitment or by their participation in the family giving.

  • Only you and the Lord can decide how much you can give. This campaign has been designed so that everyone can give something meaningful, no matter what the size. Our goal is, again, equal sacrifice, not equal gifts. If each one does as God directs, we are confident that whatever the outcome, it will follow God’s plan.

  • We strongly encourage you to make your commitment "over and above" any other giving to our church. The ministries and missions that we currently support still need to be funded. We ask that you not transfer current giving to the Vision Campaign.

If you haven’t given before, we encourage you to first consider giving regularly to the Church’s general ministry budget.

  • We believe that prayer is the key. Prayerfully considering what is an appropriate sacrificial gift is the best path to reaching the right outcome. We believe through prayer God may reveal a path to giving that today is not apparent, or at a level that seems to be a stretch. This is between you and God.

  • Yes, there are three general categories under which you can make your commitment:

    • Immediate gifts from accumulated cash.

    • Regular weekly or monthly gifts of a specified amount over the next three years.

    • Non-cash assets such as property, stocks, bonds, etc.

  • Yes. There may be tremendous tax advantages to giving assets other than cash, such as ag commodities, real estate, or appreciated stock. One of the members of our committee will be happy to discuss this with you, or you may choose to consult with your personal tax advisor.

  • Until the campaign is complete, we will not know what revisions (if any) need to be made to the building plans, how much we may need to borrow, or what extras can be added. For those reasons we ask that you not limit your gift by designating it to an area or purpose that is not part of the present plan.

  • Most commitments will be made on Commitment Weekend, May 16 & 17, 2026, during our church services; however, you will have the opportunity to make your commitment at an earlier time so please reach out to the church office if you would like to learn more or make a specific commitment.

  • Commitments will be made in writing and kept confidential by the church’s finance team. Written commitments allow us to project income and plan a realistic construction budget and timeline.

  • There are some very practical reasons for having names on commitments:

    • Confusion. Sometimes there may be confusion when interpreting a Commitment Card. Having a name allows the person tabulating the commitments to get the issue clarified before reporting totals to the congregation.

    • Loan Requirements. If your project funding plan requires bank financing, it’s not unusual for the lender to ask whether the church has signed pledges in hand.

    • People Forget. Over the course of a three-year timeframe, it is not unusual for a few people to lose or misplace the personal copy of their commitment. Without names, it is impossible to provide a reminder to anyone even at their own request.

    • Pledge Validation. The church needs to know that the pledge is valid. Strange as it might seem, there have been known instances where a well-meaning teenager mistakenly completed a large pledge with dire consequences to the church campaign. Without names, you have no way of knowing whether the pledge has validity.

  • Your sealed Commitment Card will be received and opened by Trinity Finance Staff. A total dollar amount of all commitments will be reported to the congregation.

  • Absolutely not! Your commitment is a private matter between you and God. We will not make these commitments a matter of public knowledge in any way, shape, or form.

  • We will most certainly not take any action to collect on a voluntary financial commitment. Our purpose in this Campaign is to provide adequate facilities so that we can continue to make forward progress in accomplishing the mission of our church. We are simply asking that you pray and seek God's guidance as to what He would have you commit to Him. We have provided Commitment Cards for us to plan wisely.

  • We anticipate giving toward commitments will begin on Celebration Weekend, June 6 & 7, 2026. You may begin honoring your commitment based upon the timing that you designate on your Commitment Card and according to your income schedule. The church has established a fund for the Vision Campaign so you may begin giving toward the campaign at any time. (Please note "Go Beyond" on any Vision Campaign contributions.)

  • Certainly, since this is a commitment between you and the Lord, you have an opportunity to revise your commitment. It would be helpful if changes could be communicated in a written manner so church leadership can revise their projections.
